Apologies

8 Mar

Sorry for being rubbish on here for the past few months… I have no excuse, just couldn’t be bothered. New stuff in the pipeline.

Peas out.

The best of this weeks cinema releases.

23 Aug

Here’s my pick of the best films released in the week commencing 23rd August 2010. This will hopefully be a weekly post starting from today, which will include a brief synopsis and trailer/video clip. Let me know your thoughts.

1) Scott Pilgrim Vs The World – released Wednesday 25th August.

I’m hearing nothing but great things about this film and accompanying soundtrack. Michael Cera plays Scott, I guy who has to defeat this girlfriends ‘exes’ so he can date her. Expect fantasy style language and visuals as this was adapted from a comic book, directed by Edgar (Hot Fuzz) Wright. It just looks like great fun!

2) The Girl Who Played With Fire – released Friday 26th August.

Lisbeth Salander is the prime suspect in a treble murder and encounters rapists, sex traffickers and corrupt officials in her attempt to clear her name. Expect a lot of action and an unforgiving heroine in Noomi Rapace in the 2nd film in the Millenium Trilogy, based on the books by the late Stieg Larsson. (in Swedish with subtitles)

3) SoulBoy – released Friday 27th August.

A musically influenced film set in 1974 with a supporting role for Alfie Allen. A rather unoriginal story of Joe, a northern lad in his late teens throwing himself in to the northern soul movement to spend more time with a new love interest. Enjoyable, easy to watch with a pretty good soundtrack.

Don’t Be Bender, Think of a Decent Movie Title

13 May

The Last Airbender has inspired me, not because it’s life changingly good (no idea as I haven’t seen it) but it quite possibly is a contender for the worst film title in the history of cinema. What was Mr Shayamalan thinking? I know he didn’t conceive the title as it was a comic originally, but geez, use a bit of artistic licence and think of a half decent title. I’m surprised the studio producers gave it the go ahead as well!

Anyway, it has inspired me however to compile a list of bloody awful film titles. Not all of them I have seen, which begs the question, do you judge a film by its title?

1)      The Last Airbender

2)      I Know What You Did Last Summer

3)      Santa Claus Conquers The Martians

4)      Don’t Tell Mom The Babysitters Dead

5)      The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living, and Became Mixed-Up Zombies (not joking)

I have limited 50’s titles also, what were they thinking!

6)      Donkey Punch (unless I’m the only one with the dirty mind?)

7)      The Sisterhood of The Travelling Pants

8)      Cannibal Women In The Avocado Jungle of Death

9)      Mother, May I Sleep With Danger?

10)  The Englishman Who Went up A Hill, but Came Down a Mountain.

I have deliberately missed out porn films, they should have their very own category I think! I would love to hear your thoughts on the matter…

Four Lions

7 May

With the country in political turmoil this weekend, it seems rather apt that a comedy about suicide bombers opens in the UK this weekend.

Now, I haven’t seen Four Lions yet so this isn’t a review, more along the lines of promoting thought and discussion.

How brave or stupid is director Christopher Morris, to tackle radical extremists not in the so often portrayed diplomatic and sombre tone, but as a full blown jihadist comedy? Are the actors, including Riz Ahmed, setting themselves up as hate targets for the minority Islamic extremists, or will the vast majority of Muslims laugh along with the idiocy of their plan? Will it promote radicalism and encourage wannabe suicide bombers or will it be conducive to an understanding between peaceful Muslims and other religions as they see it as ridiculous as everybody else?

Personally I am eager to see the film and almost as keen to see the reaction it provokes from the cinema going audience.

 Only time will tell…

iPhone Images with Picasa

3 May

While on random days out I thought I would see what I could do with my iPhone and free photo editing software Picasa. This is what I have come up with.
